RULES

Updated April 2023

● The game is played in partnership, 4 players total.

● Must play with 2 Euchre decks minus the 9’s and 10’s.

● There are a total of 8 tricks in each hand.

● We will play 6 games of 8 hands each, unless otherwise noted.

● Play begins with the person who won the bid.

● Each player only has one opportunity to bid.

● Each player must look at their hand and decide what they would like trump to be and how many

tricks they can take, including no trump which is also an option. For example, “2 spades”. The

next player has the option to pass or to bid the same or another suit as long as they go higher

than what the previous person bid. There is no minimum bid, but the maximum is 8 tricks, or you

can go alone.

● NEW: BIDDING LOW NO-TRUMP! Bidding low no-trump is basically the opposite of No-trump

(also known as HIGH). With LOW no-trump, Jacks become the highest card, Queens are second

best, Kings are third and lowest card would be the Ace. It really adds to the game by providing

more opportunities and forces you to think a little differently.

Scoring:

● You get 1 point for each trick, regardless of which team won the bid. For the team that

won the bid, if they do not get all the tricks, they said they would, they will receive -1 point

per trick. For example, if they bid 5 Spades but only won 4 tricks, they will have a minus 5.

If they do get the tricks they bid on, they will receive a bonus of one point as well. Also,

although it is one point per trick, the maximum amount of points the winning team

can receive is the amount they bid + the bonus.

● For EUCHRES: the team that euchred the other, will also receive 2 points, like

regular Euchre!

● If you go alone, you must take all 8 tricks, but you have 3 options:

● For 12 points, and you get to switch your two worst cards for your partner’s two best

cards.

● For 18 points, and you get to switch your worst card for your partner’s best card.

● For 24 points (Shoot the Moon), you don’t get to switch any cards.

RENEGE RULE:

Should a player of a non-bidding team renege, the play is stopped and the PLAYER who reneged,

is penalized five (5) points, their partner gets ZERO (0) and the bidding team gets its bid without

further play. However, should a member of the bidding team renege, the team loses its bid and

the player who reneged is penalized five (5) points, their partner gets ZERO and the defending

team gets five points.
